Jagannath Panda

New Delhi, Delhi, India

Jagannath Panda’s paintings and sculptures are often inspired by Orissa, his native state in India, and his current home outside chaotically urban New Delhi, in the rapidly-burgeoning suburb of Gurgaon. Reflecting the rapid changes of his environs—not just Gurgaon, but India as a whole—his work typically expresses the anxieties of displacement and alienation. Human progress collides with nature, humans with animals, the sacred with the profane. Panda disrupts these binaries, finding fertile ground where, as Yeats puts it, “the centre does not hold.”
